Passive Nonlinear Optical Isolators Bypassing Dynamic Reciprocity

Magnetic-free optical isolators are critical components for the realization of integrated systems. The underlying physics passive nonlinear is not solely about breaking Lorentz reciprocity without requiring any external bias. Indeed, one major obstacle to operation Kerr-type was found be so-called dynamic reciprocity, which serious outcome that a backward signal cannot isolated in presence forward strong signal. In this work, we advocate novel concept velocity-selective nonlinearity bypass such reciprocity. Using proof-of-principle platform with warm rubidium atoms an asymmetric cavity, experimentally achieve isolation signal, experimental observations agreement our theoretical simulations. This work has thus made essential step towards functioning isolators.
